2021 recap, upcoming bursary period and more

Happy holidays – It’s been a busy year! The Credit Union Foundation of BC (CUFBC) supported 178 students with over $177,000 in bursary funding, welcomed three new Trustees and honoured two individuals with Distinguished Service Awards. We’re also gearing up for our winter bursary period, starting January 1, 2022.

 New Trustees

The CUFBC extended a warm welcome in 2021 to our newest Trustees:

Anita Cheng: Director, Member and Stakeholder Engagement, Vancity Credit Union

Kirsten McElgunn: VP, Marketing and Member Engagement, Prospera Credit Union

Jana Lukasek: Chief Executive Officer, Bulkley Valley Credit Union

Distinguished Service Awards recipients

The CUFBC was proud to honour the 2021 Distinguished Service Award recipients Helmut Pastrick and Tamara Vrooman, who showed tremendous leadership in the preservation and extension of the philosophy of “people helping people”. Their impact still resonates throughout the Credit Union system in BC and across Canada.

2022 Winter bursary period opening soon

It can be challenging to fund your education, and the Credit Union Foundation of BC is here to help. Applications from students in post-secondary will be accepted between January 1 – February 15, 2022. You can find information about the bursary program and a link to the application form on our website

Thank you to credit unions

Thanks to the collective support of credit unions across the province, we’re making a huge difference for post-secondary students facing barriers to education.

A special shout out to  Coast Capital Savings  for their $20,000 donation in 2021, and to G&F Financial for  their recent $30,000  donation  as part of  their ‘Tis the Season to Give Back  campaign!

“I am so grateful for your support during this trying time. In the thick of final exams, this has given me a last big push to keep on persevering in my studies.” – 2021 bursary recipient
