Knowing that students pursuing post-secondary education are navigating increasingly complex challenges, the Credit Union Foundation of BC (CUFBC) makes grants available for schools to offer holistic support to those who need a boost.
The Success Centre at the Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (NVIT) is just one example of CUFBC grant support. The Success Centre is a holistic, culturally grounded, learner-centred space dedicated to supporting students throughout their academic journey. Students repeatedly express that consistent access to academic supports, culturally respectful guidance, and equitable access to both wellness and learning resources help them persevere through challenging academic periods and feel more connected to a supportive campus community. The CUFBC is pleased to provide funding to the Centre, helping to create a warm and welcoming environment for every NVIT student.
The Success Centre places a strong emphasis on promoting student health and well-being. This includes embracing the cultural significance of gathering around food, a practice that brings people together and strengthens our shared sense of belonging. The Centre also provides transit tickets or gift cards for students experiencing emergencies or struggling to meet their basic needs. Leaning into the positive atmosphere of the Success Centre, NVIT staff also enjoy putting on small social events to help students unwind and alleviate some academic stress.
Grant support from the Credit Union Foundation of BC enables the Success Centre to uphold its commitment to student success in a holistic and culturally grounded way. By addressing both academic challenges and the personal obstacles students often face, the Centre helps NVIT students to thrive, feel valued and remain engaged in their learning journey.
