CUFBC Appoints two new Trustees to its Board of Directors

VANCOUVER – The Credit Union Foundation of BC (CUFBC) is pleased to announce the appointment of two new Trustees to its board of directors. Joining the board will be Sam Lundy (Stabilization Central Credit Union) and Niki Jelstad (Prospera Credit Union). This brings the number of board members to eleven.

“We’re extending a warm welcome to our new trustees” said Bill Corbett, CUFBC President. “Sam and Niki both bring years of experience in and passion for the credit union system, and we look forward to their contributions.”

Sam Lundy is the Assistant Vice President of Credit Union Services at Stabilization Central Credit Union where she oversees the creation of valued resources and advisory services for BC credit unions. She has over 10 years of experience in the Canadian credit union system and during that time she has collected diverse experience in governance, risk management and compliance, treasury services, government relations and advocacy. Sam is a recipient of the Canadian Credit Union Association’s National Young Leader Award (2022) and currently serves on the National Young Leaders Committee as Chair of the Impact and Engagement Sub-Committee. She is also a member and former Regional Chair of the BC Emerging Leaders (BCEL) Network.

“My passion for the credit union system and the cooperative principles runs deep. Combine that with my belief in the transformative benefits of higher education and the Credit Union Foundation of BC’s purpose has a strong alignment with my personal values. Reflecting on the pivotal role bursaries played in my educational journey, I am honoured to serve as a Trustee and look forward to the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of others in pursuit of their goals.”

Niki Jelstad is the Director of Marketing and Community Engagement at Prospera Credit Union. She started her career over 16 years ago as a front-line teller at Westminster Savings and moved into Marketing 10 years ago. Through the merger with Prospera in 2020, her role expanded to include community engagement, and she now oversees the organization’s community investment strategy and works directly with the Prospera Foundation Board. As a passionate young leader, she also volunteered on the BC Emerging Leaders Committee for 3 years, serving as Chair in her last year.

“Community giving is ingrained in the culture at Prospera and across all credit unions; it’s what unites us together. It fosters a sense of camaraderie where our organizations come together to contribute to the common good and the betterment of our local communities. I was thrilled to learn about the opportunity to join the CUFBC and cannot wait to collaborate on some exciting initiatives with some amazing people.”
